Tonight: Opening Reception for Ticket to Jerusalem exhibition

Exhibition Curated by Radik Shvarts. Hosted by Generation R at the JCC in Manhattan.

Join us for the opening reception of Ticket to Jerusalem, an exhibition of entries from a year-long international mail-art project. “Ticket to Jerusalem” showcased the designs of artists from around the world who answered the call to design the “perfect airplane ticket to Jerusalem”. The tickets (boarding passes), all created on 8×3” sized medium, collectively form an image of the Promised Land that has long been sought out as a destination, whether for emigration, aliyah or pure pleasure.

Opening Reception in celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut: Tues. April 13th 7:30pm
At JCC in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Ave. (75-76 Str)

$5 tickets. (beautiful terrace with views of Manhattan, wine, cool Israeli music from 70s, as heard on Heebru.com)

Made possible by a grant from CWW, a project of COJECO, a UJA-FED NY beneficiary

“You would be hard pressed to find an Israeli who grew up in the 1990s and can’t remember the first time he or she read Missing Kissinger” —Time Out London

One the most irreverent and hilarious voices to emerge in contemporary Israeli literature, Etgar Keret began writing surreal, incisive short fiction during his military service and became famous for his second collection of stories, Missing Kissinger. Since then, he has seamlessly transferred his surreal, absurdist worldview from the page to the screen by writing screenplays and directed films, winning the Camera d’Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

Onili (Tel-Aviv) – live in Brooklyn (& NYC)

onili_bt_adir_darmon_1268241715From israelfm.org: Onili burst onto the local scene in 2006 having returned from a prolonged exile in Paris, set up her studio somewhere in the Carmel Mountains, and just started shooting everywhere. Throughout the next 2 years she not only collaborated with Israel’s top urban & underground talents, but burnt Tel-Aviv’s hottest stages and venues with her pink-pink-assed-out show, steadily building a fanbase verging on cult following. Her Paris years, whilst alluding to a past somewhat shady, have also included Film Studies at the
Sorbonne, and lending her vocal arrangement and performance skills for ‘Superman Lovers’ 2001 summer-smash hit, Starlight.
Straight from the stages of SXSW she’s stopping in NYC for 3 shows:

March 27, 7:00pm @ Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue in the Gowanus.

Also March 24, 4:00pm @ Best Buy – Union Square & March 25, 12:00am @ Nublu

Несколько цитат из статьи в Jta.org о семинаре: “Finding their way into the community doesn’t mean the Russian immigrants don’t have a deep sense of who they are and where they come from. The notion of “discovering” their Jewish identity seems foreign to many of them, even laughable. They’re Jewish because they’re Jewish, they say — what eludes them, for the most part, is Judaism. <...> But just because they feel apart from the mainstream American Jewish community doesn’t mean they aren’t flexing their muscle and looking to build something of their own. <...> We are a community, and a relatively strong one, and we can teach other communities how to find their identity”
